Shaker Heights Development Corporation Supports Small Businesses

Through Gift Card Purchase Program and Auction

Shaker Heights Development Corporation (SHDC) remains steadfastly committed to supporting small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The public health crisis has created challenges for everyone, including small businesses in the Shaker Heights community. Many small businesses have had to essentially reinvent their business models, including how they interact with their customers, to mention only a few of the challenges. As a sign of support, SHDC has purchased gift cards from over 50 locally owned and operated businesses.

The gift card purchases provide cash immediately to the businesses. SHDC will be auctioning off the gift cards, utilizing an online platform, to the community with the hope that the winning bidders will spend additional money at local establishments.

“The board and staff felt this was a straightforward way for the organization to support small businesses by directly contributing to their bottom line,” said Scott Garson, President of the Board of Directors of SHDC.

“Shaker small businesses are dealing with a multitude of issues right now. We are fortunate that the organization is in a position to directly support businesses and we hope the community will continue to do so as well,” said Nick Fedor, Executive Director of SHDC. The gift card auction is scheduled to run from September 14 through October 4, 2020. Additional info and bidding instructions will be posted on SHDC’s website (
